Putrajaya, Apr 10 (V7N)– Bangladesh has taken fresh initiatives to reopen the Malaysian labor market, with both countries agreeing to resume recruitment under a more transparent and cost-effective system.
A high-level Bangladeshi delegation led by Labour and Employment Adviser Ariful Haque Chowdhury held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian authorities in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia, on Thursday (April 9). The Malaysian side was led by Human Resources Minister Dato' Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan. Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin was also present.
Following the meeting, the two countries signed a joint statement, marking significant progress in labor migration cooperation.
According to the joint statement, both nations agreed to quickly reopen the labor market, ensure a transparent recruitment process, and reduce migration costs. The two sides emphasized safe, orderly, and regular migration, while aiming to minimize the role of intermediaries.
Malaysia informed the meeting that it is introducing a technology- and AI-based recruitment system to streamline the hiring process and reduce costs. The initiative aligns with the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s “Employer Pay” principle, targeting zero migration costs for workers. Bangladesh expressed full support for implementing this system.
