Country, June 20 (V7N) — At least 10 people, including a BNP leader and an infant, were killed in separate road accidents across various districts of Bangladesh on Thursday, highlighting the alarming frequency of fatal crashes on national highways.

The most tragic of these occurred in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura, where three motorcyclists died after being hit by a truck on the Bogura-Naogaon highway near the local fire service station.

Bogura: Three Killed in Truck-Motorcycle Collision

The victims have been identified as Shafiqul Islam Rinkon, Mushfiqur Rahman, and Ashrafuzzaman. According to police and local witnesses, the three were traveling toward Bogura on a motorcycle when a truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with them, killing all three on the spot.

Adamdighi Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Mostafizur Rahman confirmed that the truck has been seized, but the driver and his assistant fled the scene.

Pabna: BNP Leader Killed, Family Injured

In another fatal crash, Billal Hossain Pramanik, a BNP leader and organizational secretary of Ward-8 in Salimpur Union, died after his motorcycle was hit by a mini truck on the Ishwardi-Pabna highway in the Kalikapur area, near the Pabna Sugar Mill.

His wife and two children sustained injuries and were admitted to the local Upazila Health Complex. The family was reportedly en route to his in-laws’ home in Shyampur when the accident occurred.

Pabna (Santhia Upazila): Elderly Man Dies in Hit-and-Run

Earlier that morning, Zainal Abedin, a resident of Sholabarhia village, was killed by a speeding bus while walking to Madhpur Bazaar. The incident occurred near the Al-Qadriya Madrasa crossing on the Pabna-Nagarbari highway. The bus did not stop after the incident.

Naogaon: Two Dead in Van-Rickshaw Collision

In Naogaon’s Chak Bonmali area, two passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed in a collision with a locally modified three-wheeler (locally known as a "votvoti") on the Badalgachhi-Joypurhat regional highway.
One of the deceased has been identified as Kartik Chandra from Badalgachhi. The identity of the second victim is yet to be confirmed. Police said the two vehicles collided head-on.

Chattogram: Elderly Pedestrian Killed by Lorry

In Chattogram’s Mirsarai upazila, an elderly man named Zainal Abedin was killed when a container lorry lost control and hit him on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Fenapuri area. According to his brother-in-law, the victim was waiting by the roadside for transport when the accident occurred.

Sylhet: Infant Dies a Day After Wedding Procession Crash

In Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet, a three-month-old baby, Abdullah Al Mursalin, died from injuries sustained in a road accident that occurred a day earlier. The crash involved an auto-rickshaw and a car carrying a bride and groom. The accident, which took place near Kaskankapur Union Office Bazaar, also killed the rickshaw driver Shahabuddin Sabu on Wednesday and left at least eight others injured, including women and children.

Nationwide Concern Over Road Safety

These back-to-back incidents, spanning multiple districts in a single day, have raised renewed concern over road safety and reckless driving in Bangladesh. Law enforcement officials have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, improved road infrastructure, and public awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies.
