Gazipur, May 05 (V7N) – Ten-year-old Tanzila has died from injuries sustained in a gas cylinder explosion in the Mogarkhal area of Joydebpur, Gazipur, marking the fifth fatality in the tragic incident that has claimed the lives of an entire family.

She passed away around 11 p.m. on Sunday (May 4) while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, confirmed Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.

Earlier that morning, Parveen Akhter (32), Tanzila’s mother, succumbed to her injuries. She had suffered 32 percent burns. Dr. Rahman stated that Tanzila had burns on 90 percent of her body.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a faulty gas cylinder, severely burned five members of the same family:

  • Parveen Akhter (32)

  • Tanzila (10)

  • Ayan (1)

  • Sima Akhter (30)

  • Taslima Begum (30), who was five months pregnant

The timeline of deaths following the incident is heart-wrenching:

  • April 28 (Monday): Sima Akhter died

  • April 29 (Tuesday): Taslima Begum died with 95% burns

  • May 3 (Saturday): One-year-old Ayan died

  • May 4 (Sunday): Parveen Akhter and later her daughter Tanzila passed away

Authorities are investigating the cause of the blast, while locals have urged for stricter safety inspections on gas cylinders used in households.
