Dhaka, Apr 12 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that the government is once again signaling a return to authoritarian rule, warning that such an opportunity “will not be given again.”
He made the remarks during a view-exchange program with families of “July martyrs” and “July fighters” held at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Dhaka on Sunday. He also claimed that the “July Museum,” which he said belongs to the people, has been politicized.
Shafiqur Rahman further accused the BNP of betraying the nation by not participating in the Reform Council oath-taking process. He also alleged political interference in institutions such as the cricket board, universities, and district councils, calling it a threat to democratic processes.
He stated that his political movement would continue both inside and outside parliament, emphasizing that “the streets are our main address.”
Meanwhile, Opposition Chief Whip and NCP convener Nahid Islam said that the “blood of the July martyrs will not go in vain” and announced that leaders of 11 parties would lead future movements. He warned that they were prepared to face repression while continuing their political struggle in the streets.
