Dhaka, Jan 18 (V7N) — The difficult days of Kazi Anik Islam, the once-promising pacer of Bangladesh’s 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup squad, appear to be easing after receiving support from BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Kazi Anik Islam, who was regarded as one of the most intimidating fast bowlers of the tournament, saw his cricketing career come to a halt due to prolonged injury, financial hardship, and what he describes as long-term neglect. His struggles recently came to public attention after details of his inhumane living conditions surfaced on social media.
The issue drew the attention of Tarique Rahman, who later extended assistance to the cricketer. Following this, Anik visited the residence of BNP Central Sports Affairs Secretary and former national team captain Aminul Haque in Pallabi, Mirpur. Aminul Haque conveyed support to Anik on behalf of the BNP Chairman.
According to sources, Anik had earlier sought help from one or two officials associated with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) but did not receive any concrete assistance. The support extended by BNP has therefore brought renewed hope to the young fast bowler.
Expressing his gratitude, Kazi Anik Islam said he was overwhelmed by the gesture and now dreams of making a comeback to competitive cricket and, one day, returning to the national team.
The development has sparked discussions on social media regarding the responsibility of sports authorities towards injured and struggling athletes and the need for a structured support system for former players.
