Jhalakathi, Sept 14 (V7N) — A passenger bus operated by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) became stuck after one of its wheels sank into soft roadside soil while the driver was attempting to give way to an oncoming vehicle in Kathalia, Jhalakathi, on Sunday.
The incident occurred around noon near Taltala Bazar on the Barishal-Dhaka-Patharghata regional highway in Kathalia Upazila.
According to local sources, the BRTC bus was travelling from Barishal towards Bamna when the driver attempted to move to the side of the road to allow a battery-powered auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction to pass.
At that point, one side of the bus sank into the soft soil beside the road, leaving the vehicle partially tilted and in a precarious position.
No passengers were injured in the incident.
Local residents immediately joined efforts to rescue the bus following the incident.
Residents alleged that the Rajapur-Kathalia-Amua-Bamna-Patharghata regional road has become narrow and riddled with potholes due to a prolonged lack of maintenance.
They said vehicles frequently face serious risks while travelling along the road, particularly when drivers attempt to give way to oncoming traffic.
