Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has called for a thorough public clarification on whether any advisors of the interim government are involved in the Gulshan extortion incident.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that if the matter is not investigated properly, further questions will arise regarding the role of advisors. He urged that the issue be examined in detail and brought to public attention.

Salahuddin also warned political parties against spreading misleading statements about the upcoming national elections, saying that those attempting to sabotage or boycott the polls would be sidelined from national politics.

The remarks come after a confessional statement by Jane Alam Apu, former joint convener of the Bangladesh Democratic Students' Union (BGSAS), who was arrested in the extortion case at the residence of former Awami League MP Shammi Akhter in Gulshan, went viral on social media on Wednesday night. In the statement, Apu allegedly mentioned meeting and discussing with an advisor near a hotel in Gulshan in the early morning hours.

Additionally, Apu's wife, Kazi Anisha, alleged at a press conference at the National Museum on Thursday that BNP leader Ishraq Hossain had forcibly extracted the confessional statement from her husband.
