Dhaka, June 21 (V7N) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman informed Parliament that 80 cases have been filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) regarding crimes against humanity committed during the July 2024 mass uprising. The minister shared these details during a parliamentary session at the Sangsad Bhaban, which was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.

The minister provided these statistics while responding to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Masum Mustafa of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He revealed that out of the total cases filed, verdicts have already been announced for seven of them, while judicial proceedings for the remaining 73 cases are still actively moving forward.

Giving a clearer breakdown of the pending legal actions, the minister explained that 22 of the ongoing cases are currently at the witness testimony stage. Meanwhile, investigators are still working to wrap up their official inquiries and gather necessary evidence for the other 51 cases.

In the seven cases that have already reached a final verdict, the tribunal has successfully convicted a total of 59 individuals. Among those found guilty, 13 received the death penalty, while the rest of the convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment or various other prison terms.

The minister also shared that the overall number of individuals accused of crimes against humanity across these cases has reached 463. Out of this total, law enforcement has arrested 174 individuals, 288 suspects are currently on the run, one accused person has passed away, and another has been fully acquitted.

Concluding his remarks, Md. Asaduzzaman strongly repeated the government's firm commitment to delivering justice for the victims of these crimes. He assured the House that the judicial process is moving forward smoothly and strictly in line with the law through the established International Crimes Tribunal.
