DHAKA, May 11 (v7n) – Members of the Health Sector Reform Commission, led by Professor Dr. A K Azad Khan, met with Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain today to discuss implementation of the commission’s recommendations for improving the country’s healthcare system.
During the meeting at the Health Ministry conference room, commission members pledged continued cooperation to ensure better healthcare services, enhanced accountability, patient safety, and a more people-oriented system. They urged for increased budget allocation to strengthen primary healthcare, noting that a robust grassroots system would reduce patient pressure on tertiary hospitals, lower treatment costs, and ease the burden on specialized facilities.
Key issues discussed included digital health services, institutional accountability, doctors’ security, and service quality improvement. The commission emphasized that addressing these areas is vital for building a sustainable and equitable health system.
Minister Sakhawat Hossain assured the delegation that the government would gradually implement the commission’s recommendations. He highlighted the administration’s commitment to advancing reforms that improve healthcare delivery and protect patients’ rights.
Commission members present included Professor Syed Akram Hossain (Chairman, Clinical Oncology Department, Bangladesh Medical University), Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali, M M Reza, and Dr. Azharul Islam.
