DHAKA, May 20, (V7N)— Four new witnesses testified today in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed.

The witnesses — Abu Hena Md Zakir, Akram Hossain Riad, Sohel Miah, and Sajibur Rahman — appeared before Dhaka Special Judge Court-5. After recording their statements, Judge Abdullah Al Mamun adjourned the hearing until June 23. With today’s testimonies, five prosecution witnesses have testified so far.

According to case documents, the ACC had asked Benazir Ahmed to submit a wealth statement. He filed his asset declaration through his lawyer on August 27, 2024.

In the statement, he declared immovable assets worth Tk 6.45 crore and movable assets worth Tk 5.74 crore. However, the ACC investigation found he owned immovable assets worth Tk 7.52 crore. The commission alleges he concealed immovable assets worth Tk 1.85 crore.

The ACC also found movable assets worth Tk 8.15 crore in his name, Tk 2.40 crore more than declared.

Based on its calculations, the ACC says Benazir Ahmed acquired unexplained wealth totaling Tk 11.04 crore.

Following allegations of concealing information in his wealth statement, acquiring illegal wealth, and money laundering, the ACC filed the case against him on December 15, 2024, at the Integrated District Office-1, Dhaka.

After completing the investigation, ACC Deputy Director Hafizul Islam submitted a charge sheet against Benazir Ahmed on November 30, 2025.

The court framed charges against the former IGP on May 3, 2026.
