CHATTOGRAM, May 8 (V7N) — Marking a significant milestone in bilateral maritime relations, the Indian naval ship IOS Sagar arrived at Chattogram harbour today as part of its multinational IOS SAGAR 2026 deployment. The visit underscores the growing naval interoperability and strategic partnership between Bangladesh and India.

According to a press release from the Indian High Commission, the ship was formally received in Bangladesh waters by the Bangladesh Navy frigate BNS Ali Haider (F17) following a successful transit through the Bay of Bengal.
Strengthening Professional & Operational Ties

The visit features a robust itinerary designed to enhance cooperation between the two neighbouring navies:

High-Level Meetings: The Commanding Officer of IOS Sagar is scheduled to hold courtesy calls with senior Bangladesh Navy officials, including the Commander Chattogram Naval Area, Commander Bangladesh Naval Fleet, and the Area Superintendent Dockyard.

Port & Logistics Dialogue: A meeting with the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority is planned to discuss maritime logistics, security cooperation, and port management.

Honourig Shared History: In a symbolic gesture of mutual respect, the Commanding Officer will lay a wreath at the Chattogram Commonwealth War Cemetery to pay tribute to the shared sacrifices of both nations.

Capacity Building and Camaraderie

To promote professional growth and people-to-people bonds, several exchange programs have been organized:

Training Exchanges: Crew members will visit the BNS Issa Khan Training Complex and the Bangladesh Naval Academy to share expertise and training methodologies.

Cross-Deck Visits: Naval personnel from both countries will participate in cross-deck visits and professional exchanges to understand each other's operational environments.

Sports Diplomacy: A friendly football match between members of the two navies is scheduled to foster camaraderie among the sailors.
