DHAKA, Mar 9, (V7N) – Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Coordinator Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP, today stressed the need for coordinated initiatives involving all stakeholders to ensure safe, smooth and extortion‑free travel for passengers during the upcoming Eid holidays.
He made the remarks at a views‑exchange meeting with transport owners and workers at the Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the capital, organized by the Sayedabad Bus Terminal Owners and Workers Committee.
Shimul Biswas said millions of people travel from cities to their village homes during Eid, creating heavy pressure on roads and highways. Complaints of excessive fares, extortion and disorder often arise, causing suffering for passengers. “To make the Eid journey comfortable and safe, maintaining discipline in the transport sector is extremely important. There should be no overcharging of fares or mistreatment of passengers under any circumstances,” he emphasized.
He called for stricter monitoring at key points to stop illegal extortion, urging law enforcement agencies to increase surveillance so that dishonest syndicates cannot exploit travelers.
The meeting was chaired by Nabi Ullah Nabi, convener of the Sayedabad Inter‑District and City Bus Terminal Owners Association. Among others present were Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sarwar Hossain, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association President Abdul Batten, General Secretary Saiful Islam, transport leaders, workers’ representatives and law enforcement officials.
