DHAKA, Feb 12, (V7N)- Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said that despite various challenges and debates surrounding the election, citizens are exercising their voting rights in a spontaneous and orderly manner.
“People are voting spontaneously today,” she told journalists after casting her ballot at Ideal School and College on Central Road in Dhanmondi at noon.
Rizwana, who also oversees the ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources, expressed satisfaction after voting. “Let’s celebrate this election, the government’s endeavor,” she said, adding that voters were participating in an orderly way and that “people have truly been empowered.”
Referring to pre-election discussions and speculation, she noted that many people had been concerned about whether the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls would be held as scheduled. “Until yesterday, I heard questions about what the election would be like. Many even sent messages to inquire,” she said.
Responding to another question, Rizwana said she has not been an elected office-holder but has served in a responsible role. “Responsibility is a lifelong matter. There is no scope to procrastinate this issue,” she said.
Recalling her previous role as Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), she said she has long worked on environmental issues. “Now I work on the environment as an adviser. When I leave, I will return to BELA and continue working on the environment,” she added.
She also remarked that the country has long faced negativity and suspicion, but recent developments demonstrate that such narratives do not fully reflect reality.
On the announcement of election results, the adviser clarified that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. “As soon as the gazette notification is issued and the oath is taken, we will immediately hand over responsibility,” she said.
“Until that moment, we remain in charge. The state has responsibilities every day. Once the oath is taken, we will no longer be in charge,” she added.
