Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) — The government has added 136 new medicines to the national essential medicines list, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Dr. Sayedur Rahman announced on Thursday.
He made the announcement at a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka. Dr. Rahman said the prices of the newly listed medicines will be determined by the government and implemented within the current term.
Dr. Rahman noted that the list does not include medicines for cancer treatment, but it covers essential drugs for other conditions, including hypertension and diabetes. He added that many of these medicines had previously been unaffordable due to the absence of regulated pricing.
Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, Shafiqul Alam, was present at the briefing and confirmed that the number of essential drugs has been increased following cabinet-approved guidelines.
The move aims to make essential medicines more accessible to the general public and ensure regulated pricing across the country.
