Dhaka, Sep 06 (V7N) – The Muslim Ummah across the world, including Bangladesh, is observing today the holy Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), marking both the birth and death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The day is being commemorated with due religious fervor through various ceremonies, prayers, and processions.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in 570 AD in the respected Quraysh clan of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and passed away on the same date in 632 AD. His father, Abdullah, died before his birth, and his mother, Amina, passed away when he was just six years old.
The tradition of celebrating Miladunnabi in the subcontinent spans more than 400 years. Many Sunni scholars emphasize the significance of observing this day through Milad, voluntary fasting, and Islamic sermons, while some scholars differ in their views. Nevertheless, it is widely recognized that the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth was a blessing for the entire world.
On this occasion, President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus issued separate messages. The President said the Holy Prophet (PBUH) established justice, equality, and dignity for all, providing eternal guidance for the Muslim Ummah. “Every word, deed, and lifestyle of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) must be followed to attain the pleasure of Almighty Allah and ensure the welfare of both this world and the hereafter,” he noted.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said the Prophet’s unique philosophy of life and universal teachings are the keys to peace and justice in today’s conflict-ridden world. “The ideals and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) remain the best model to emulate, ensuring endless welfare, success, and peace for mankind,” he said.
As part of the observance, the Islamic Foundation has organized a fortnight-long program, which began Friday after Maghrib at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Special programs, prayers, and sermons will continue in Dhaka as well as other major cities including Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, and Rajshahi. Authorities have placed special emphasis on ensuring smooth and safe gatherings and processions nationwide.
Today is a public holiday in Bangladesh to honor the occasion.
