DHAKA, MAY 24 (V7N) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized Friday that the interim government is navigating a demanding trifecta of responsibilities: reforms, justice, and elections.

"Our responsibilities are broadly three, and all three are very difficult. One responsibility is reform, one is dispensing justice, and other is election," Hasan told reporters after attending a function in the capital.

She underscored the national scope of their mandate. "Our responsibility is a national one. We said we have taken the responsibility, not power. It will be possible for us to perform it only when we all get cooperation from all."

Hasan reiterated Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's established timeframe for the next general election, slated between December 2025 and June 2026. "There is no scope to deviate from it even for a day," she asserted, adding her belief that there should be no room for alternative discussions on this timeline.

The adviser disclosed that a recent advisory council meeting at Jamuna involved extensive deliberation on the interim government's performance. "We discussed whether we are actually delivering our responsibilities for which we were deputed," she said.

Since assuming office, the interim government has faced numerous public demonstrations stemming from various demands. Hasan noted that while "expectation is one thing but responsibility is another," street protests are causing paralysis in Dhaka. "We all are thinking about how to deal with the obstacles to perform the three major responsibilities," she added.

Hasan clarified that the interim government is not operating under external pressure, but rather internal stress to fulfill its duties. "If we are unable to perform our responsibilities, we will go back to our own business," she stated.

She highlighted the progress made despite challenging circumstances. "We have come across a long way amid many adverse situations. We have formed reform commissions, which have already submitted their reports. Process is underway to reach a consensus among the political parties on reform agenda."

Reaffirming the election timeline, Hasan concluded, "The government has announced a timeframe for the elections, which will definitely be held between December next and June 2026." Regarding accountability for offenses during the July uprising, she mentioned that an existing tribunal is now complemented by a newly constituted one, which will soon become operational.
