Dhaka, Jul 14 (V7N)- The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has explained why the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are continuing despite persistent rainfall and adverse weather conditions, stating that the decision was made based on reports from local administrations and the overall situation across the country.

The explanation was provided in a notification issued on Monday (July 13), signed by Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman.

According to the notification, a total of 1,270,583 candidates are participating in the HSC and equivalent examinations at 2,697 examination centers nationwide using the same question papers.

The committee noted that although examinations under the Chattogram Education Board have been postponed until July 16 due to flooding, local administrations have confirmed that examination centers under the other education boards remain suitable for conducting the tests.

The notification acknowledged that some candidates experienced unexpected transportation difficulties, particularly at the Comilla Government Women's College examination center. However, with the assistance of the local administration, students were able to reach the centers and participate in the examinations.

The committee also emphasized that repeatedly postponing the examinations is not practical, considering the academic future of more than 1.2 million candidates, the timely publication of examination results, and the admission schedules of universities and other higher educational institutions.

However, the notification stated that if any district faces a natural disaster that poses a serious threat to the safety of examinees or disrupts the examination process, the respective Deputy Commissioner (District Administrator) will assess the local situation and take the necessary decision regarding the examinations.

The committee reaffirmed that all decisions are being taken with priority given to the safety of students while ensuring the continuity of the country's academic calendar.
