Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N)- The two-day 8th Inter-College English Language Festival 2026 has begun at Holy Cross College in the capital.
The festival was inaugurated at the college auditorium on Friday morning. Holy Cross College Principal Sister Shikha Gomez, Director of Student Affairs Sister Pauline Gomez, club moderator and teacher Shuvendu Shekhar Chakraborty, teachers and club members were present at the inauguration.
Around 1,900 students from 55 colleges across the country are participating in this year's festival, organized by the Holy Cross College English Language Club.
The festival features 14 competitive events, seven individual and seven team-based. Through these competitions, students are getting opportunities to demonstrate their language skills, intelligence, creativity, presentation abilities, literary knowledge and teamwork, as well as their stage-based talents.
The festival is scheduled to conclude on Saturday with various competitions, performances and a closing ceremony.
On the first day, events including Wall Magazine, Whisper of Ink, Scrapbook, From Reader with Love, Language Championship, Turn the Coat, Labyrinth of Literature, Battle of Masterminds and Triwizard Tournament were held, alongside the opening ceremony and lunch.
The second day features the second round of Battle of Masterminds, Spell Master, Act It Out, Movie Quiz, Labyrinth of Literature and other events.
Speaking about the purpose of the festival, club moderator and teacher Shuvendu Shekhar Chakraborty said the quality of English education in the country has yet to reach the desired level. The festival was therefore organized to generate greater interest among students in learning English.
He said the event is helping students develop interest in English language and literature while also providing a break from the monotony of regular academic studies.
Club member and student Johanna Nidhi Rosario said such events provide students with opportunities to develop various life skills beyond academic learning.
She said students gain practical experience in areas such as event management, financial accounting, decoration and teamwork through their involvement in the festival.
