Pabna, Nov 01 (V7N) – Over 2,958 students from Rajshahi division participated in this year’s annual science-based Olympiad, ‘Precise Energy,’ organized by the engineering division of Rosatom Export. The event aims to cultivate students’ interest in science and attract them to nuclear engineering and technology. The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Russia’s National Research Nuclear University MEPhI supported the Olympiad.

Students from 47 schools, colleges, and universities across Pabna, Kushtia, Natore, and Rajshahi districts participated in junior and senior categories. The junior division was for school students, while the senior division catered to college and university students. The competition was conducted in two stages: preliminary and final.

Participants faced challenging questions in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, along with a team-based engineering challenge to solve practical problems. Over 600 students advanced to the final stage, with their answer sheets evaluated by a panel of MEPhI faculty members.

In the junior division, the top three winners were recognized, with Syed Mashrur Shatto from Sara Zhaudia High School, Ishwardi, Pabna, securing first place. In the senior division, awards were distributed across subject groups: Sama Jannat of Pabna University of Science and Technology won in physics, Shakil Ahmed in chemistry, and Mo Akheruzzaman Jim of Rajshahi University of Technology in mathematics. The team-based engineering Olympiad was won by Team Rabian from the University of Rajshahi.

The award ceremony was recently held at a community hall in Ishwardi, attended by representatives from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Rosatom Export, and the MEPhI faculty panel.

Eng. Md. Ashraful Islam, Director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Site, expressed pride in the students’ enthusiasm for science and technology, stating, “Many of these young participants may one day join the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project.” He congratulated the winners and thanked all involved in organizing ‘Precise Energy.’

Nina Dementseva, Head of Communications at Rosatom Export, highlighted the growing interest of Bangladeshi students, saying, “It is inspiring that participation in the Olympiad has been steadily increasing each year. This event exemplifies Russia-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation in education and science, and we hope these participants become ambassadors of peaceful atomic energy in the future.”

Alexander Nakhabov, Deputy Head of the Nuclear Physics and Technology Department at MEPhI University, commented, “Since the Olympiad began, we have observed significant improvement in students’ knowledge and motivation. Their enthusiasm for science is highly encouraging.”

This year’s ‘Precise Energy-2025’ was themed to commemorate 80 years of Russia’s nuclear industry, tracing back to August 20, 1945, when the Soviet Union initiated its nuclear program. Russia achieved significant milestones, including the first nuclear bomb test in 1949, the commissioning of the world’s first nuclear power plant in Obninsk in 1954, and the launch of the first nuclear-powered icebreaker, Lenin, in 1959.
