DHAKA, May 25, (V7N) – National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah today highlighted an acute shortage of teaching staff across all colleges in Bangladesh, both public and private.

Addressing the "Students' Skill Development Conference 2025" organized by the NU Skill Development Forum in Chittagong on Saturday, Professor Amanullah called for urgent measures to address this crisis. He proposed the attachment of teachers and demonstrators to government colleges and the immediate inclusion of non-MPO teachers in private colleges under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme.

Professor Amanullah stated that this widespread shortage of teaching staff is "hindering the overall education system of the institutions."

Detailing initiatives undertaken by the National University to enhance education quality, the VC mentioned that old syllabi have been revised, and new syllabi formulated for some courses, aligning with contemporary demands. He also noted that courses on ICT software skills, hard skills, and English language have been made compulsory.

Furthermore, he outlined steps taken for teachers’ training, college vigilance, and audits aimed at improving the academic and physical development of institutions. Professor Amanullah added that various initiatives are also being implemented to increase student attendance and encourage their return to classes.
