Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will depart for Sylhet at around 8:00 pm on Wednesday (January 21), where he will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) later that night. He is set to formally begin his election campaign on Thursday morning with a rally at the Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet.
The information was disclosed by Mahdi Amin, spokesperson of the BNP’s Central Election Management Committee, at a press conference held in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday.
Mahdi Amin said that following the Sylhet rally, Tarique Rahman will hold election rallies in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj from Thursday onward. Leaders from former student organizations and Jubo Dal, who were denied party nominations, will accompany him during the campaign.
Commenting on the recent incident in the Dhaka-15 constituency, the BNP spokesperson said that the clashes were condemnable. However, he alleged that attempts to collect confidential voter information, including bKash numbers, were unacceptable. He emphasized that BNP wants a flaw-free and model election.
Mahdi Amin added that BNP has instructed all paddy sheaf candidates to conduct mass mobilization strictly in line with the election code of conduct.
He also stated that BNP supports a “yes” vote in the referendum, claiming that as the electoral field currently favors BNP, certain quarters are attempting to disrupt the level playing field.
