RAJSHAHI, May 26, (V7N) – A total of 1,237 sanitation workers of the Rajshahi City Corporation received Eid gifts from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, distributed by RASIK Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton at Green Plaza, Nagar Bhaban. Each worker was given Tk 5,000, amounting to Tk 61.85 lakh in total.
Speaking as chief guest, Riton said the Prime Minister’s initiative was not just financial assistance but a gesture of respect and recognition of the workers’ hard labor. He emphasized that this gift would enhance their Eid joy and inspire them in their duties. He also highlighted the Prime Minister’s implemented promises, including family cards, farmer cards, loan waivers, canal re-excavation, and honorariums for imams and muazzins.
Riton announced that sacrificial waste would be removed within 6–8 hours in Rajshahi city, faster than the Prime Minister’s directive of 12 hours. He pledged to personally supervise operations for eight hours on Eid day. Preparations include eco-friendly bags, bleaching powder for meat preservation, salt distribution to madrasas and orphanages for skin preservation, traffic cooperation, and assistance for Eid travelers.
Sanitation workers expressed joy and gratitude. Sonali, Chhabera, and Kohinur Bewa said the gift allowed them to shop for their families and buy clothes for children. Rumon Ali noted it increased his family’s Eid happiness, while Hashem Ali, a worker for 15 years, said such gifts had never been given before. He praised the Prime Minister’s support during both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Md. Saiful Islam added that the gift was recognition of their work, motivating them to ensure a clean environment.
The program was presided over by RASIK CEO Md. Rezaul Karim, with Chief Cleaning Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun delivering the welcome speech. RASIK Secretary Sohel Rana, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam, Acting Superintending Engineer Ahmed Al Moin Parag, and BNP leaders including Aslam Sarkar, Joynal Abedin Shibli, Muktar Hossain, and Rabiul Alam Milu were present. Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Selim Reza Ranju moderated the event.
This initiative has been widely praised as a humanitarian gesture that not only supports sanitation workers financially but also uplifts their dignity and morale, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a cleaner and greener Rajshahi.
