Comilla, May 23 (V7N) — A rally demanding an end to attacks on Mazar (mausoleum) and the execution of convicted rapists within three months was held at the Comilla Town Hall premises on Friday morning.
The program began at around 10:00 am and was conducted by Syed Golam Moinuddin Hiyazuri, Chairman of Torikot-e Islam, while Engineer Kazi Ferdous presided over the event.
Leaders of New Dhara Bangladesh (NDB), including Chairman Momin Mehedi and Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farzana, expressed solidarity with the rally. Among others addressing the gathering were Engineer Javed Majumdar, Faizul Hiyazuri, Russell Dewan, and Minu Hiyazuri.
Speakers at the rally alleged that Mazar (mausoleum) across Bangladesh have repeatedly come under attack and expressed concern over rising incidents of violence against women. They said women and girls continue to face sexual violence due to delays and weaknesses in the justice system.
The speakers claimed that New Dhara has been conducting movements for the past 13 years demanding the execution of rapists within three months through proper legal procedures. They alleged that successive governments had failed to enact effective laws to ensure speedy justice and accused political authorities of protecting offenders instead of ensuring accountability.
During the rally, several speakers also raised allegations against leaders of different political alliances, including Jamaat and the National Citizen Party (NCP), accusing them of encouraging social instability and failing to take a firm stance against criminal activities.
Torikot-e Islam President Tipu criticized remarks made against freedom fighters and questioned the role of political leaders regarding the values of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. He also called for legal action against individuals allegedly involved in activities he described as harmful to national stability and democratic principles.
The speakers further urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure justice, strengthen public security, and prevent violence against women and religious institutions across the country.
