Cox’s Bazar, May 10, (V7N)– A Bangladeshi expatriate worker, Zafar Alam (40), from Hajipara village in Ukhia’s Rajapalong Union, died after falling from the roof of a building under construction in Malaysia. Family sources said he lost balance while working and died instantly despite rescue attempts by colleagues. His body is currently kept in a hospital freezer in Malaysia.

Relatives have appealed to the Bangladesh government, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the Bangladesh Embassy in Malaysia for urgent steps to repatriate the body. Local leaders, including Rajapalong Union Parishad Acting Chairman Mir Shahedul Islam Roman and Ukhia Upazila Executive Officer Rifat Asma, assured cooperation in completing necessary procedures.

BGB Medical Camp in Kharingkhali Meanwhile, the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) organized a free medical camp at Kharingkhali Primary School in Teknaf’s Hwaikyang Union on Saturday (May 10). Under the supervision of Major Md. Shahadat Hossain Shuvo, AMC, a total of 196 people received treatment—48 men, 119 women, and 29 children. Free medicines were also distributed.

Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Zahirul Islam and Deputy Commander Major Ishtiaq Ahmed were present. Locals welcomed the initiative, saying such humanitarian activities greatly benefit marginalized communities in remote border areas.

Minister Bobby Hajjaj Visits Rohingya Camp On the same day, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj visited Kutupalong Rohingya Camp No. 4 in Ukhia to observe learning centers run by UNICEF and other organizations. He interacted with Rohingya children and assessed the quality of education being provided under the Myanmar curriculum.

Speaking to reporters, Hajjaj said: “Education opportunities are being ensured for Rohingya children considering the humanitarian aspect. We want these children to develop as educated and skilled citizens when they return to their own country.”

He emphasized the importance of mental development through education to prevent children from being misled. Senior officials of the ministry, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, and local administration accompanied him. Later in the day, the minister was scheduled to visit primary schools in Cox’s Bazar town.
