Barguna, April 24 (V7N): A motorcycle was completely destroyed in a sudden fire at a fuel station in Barguna after petrol overflowed during refueling, highlighting safety risks amid ongoing fuel pressures and global energy concerns.
The incident occurred shortly before Thursday evening in the West Barguna area of Barguna Sadar উপজেলা. According to local sources, a motorcyclist arrived at a fuel outlet named Barguna Traders to refill petrol.
While refueling, the fuel tank overflowed, causing excess petrol to spill onto the ground. The spilled fuel came into contact with the motorcycle’s spark plug, triggering an immediate fire. Within moments, the flames spread and reached a nearby oil drum, creating panic in the surrounding area.
Local residents quickly responded using fire extinguishers and managed to bring the fire under control before it could cause major damage. Although no casualties were reported, the motorcycle was completely burned.
The rider fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities have not yet been able to identify him.
Ujjal Hossain, owner of the fuel station, said that routine fuel distribution was underway when the accident occurred due to excessive petrol intake. The burned motorcycle has since been handed over to the local police station.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Monjurul Islam of Barguna Sadar Police Station confirmed that police were present in the area to maintain law and order and are currently working to identify and locate the driver.
The incident comes at a time when Bangladesh, like many countries, is navigating challenges linked to fuel supply and rising global energy prices. Increased demand, supply chain disruptions, and price volatility in international oil markets have heightened pressure on fuel management and safety standards. Experts note that such incidents underline the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols at fuel stations, especially during periods of heightened fuel demand and operational stress.
