Feb Sat 21 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a total of 330,000 pieces of Yaba tablets in separate anti-smuggling operations along the Ghumdhum border in Naiksyangchhari upazila of Bandarban, detaining one Rohingya man in connection with the drive.

BGB Cox’s Bazar 34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam confirmed the matter on Saturday morning, stating that the seizures were made during intelligence-based raids in two different locations near the border.

According to BGB, at around 5:30 am, a patrol team from Ghumdhum BOP conducted a special operation in the Kankara Bridge area inside Bangladesh near border pillar No. 31. During the operation, a Rohingya citizen, Bashir Ahmed (50), was arrested with 80,000 pieces of Yaba tablets. He is reportedly a resident of Block-H-1 of Balukhali No. 9 Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Earlier, on Thursday night at around 10:00 pm, another raid was carried out by BGB members of Ghumdhum Baishphari BOP in the Banshjhar area, about 200 yards inside border pillar No. 36, where 250,000 pieces of ownerless Yaba tablets were recovered.

BGB officials said the detained individual has been handed over to the concerned police station along with the seized narcotics and a case has been filed under the existing law.

The BGB commander emphasized that alongside ensuring border security, the force remains highly vigilant in preventing drug trafficking and all forms of smuggling, adding that intelligence surveillance and regular operations in border areas are ongoing to curb cross-border crime.
