Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — The verdict in the crimes against humanity case filed over the July–August movement against three accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be announced on Monday (November 17).
Following the announcement of the verdict date, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam said on Thursday (November 13) that the prosecution expects the maximum punishment for the accused.
“We hope the court will put an end to crimes against humanity in the country through this verdict, setting an example for the future. We expect the maximum punishment for the accused,” Tajul Islam said at a press briefing.
The Chief Prosecutor added that action is being taken against those who attempted to influence or disrupt the trial, emphasizing that isolated incidents will not affect the judicial process.
Earlier, at 12:09 p.m., a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder fixed November 17 as the date for the verdict announcement. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Besides Sheikh Hasina, the other accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Among them, Mamun has testified as a witness, while Hasina and Asaduzzaman remain absconding.
