Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — The verdict in the crimes against humanity case filed over incidents during the July–August movement against three accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be announced on Monday, November 17.
A three-member judicial panel of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, fixed the date at 12:09 p.m. on Thursday (November 13). The other members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Along with Sheikh Hasina, the other accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Of them, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has provided a statement as a public witness, while Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan remain absconding. Mamun is currently in prison.
Earlier, on October 23, the tribunal had concluded the trial proceedings and hinted that the verdict would be delivered soon.
Meanwhile, following a Supreme Court letter to the Army Headquarters regarding security for the verdict announcement, army personnel have been deployed around the Supreme Court and tribunal premises. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure order and security.
