DHAKA, Sept 9 (V7N) – More than 2,096 security personnel, including police, dog squads, SWAT teams, specialized units, plainclothes detectives, and members of RAB and BGB, will be deployed to ensure safety during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections on Tuesday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said that extensive security preparations have been ongoing for the past week to ensure a peaceful and secure voting process. He added that the current security measures will remain in place until 6:00 pm on September 10 and can be extended if necessary.
Eight check posts have been set up across the university campus, with heightened security at all polling centers. Mobile patrols, dog squads, SWAT teams, bomb disposal units, plainclothes detectives, CCTV monitoring cells, and a striking reserve force will also be deployed. Currently, 1,771 uniformed personnel from DMP are stationed on campus, and this number will increase to 2,096 on election day, supplemented by additional RAB and BGB members.
From Monday 8:00 pm until Tuesday noon, licensed individuals will not be permitted to carry firearms. Commissioner Sajjat Ali urged all voters and campus residents not to take the law into their own hands and to immediately report any incidents to authorities.
Addressing concerns about fake ID cards, he said that necessary action is underway, while also highlighting efforts to combat cyberbullying and misinformation on social media, which have become increasingly influential during the election period.
The DMP commissioner expressed confidence that the elections will be conducted smoothly and safely under the enhanced security measures.
