Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a ban on all forms of meetings, rallies, and mass gatherings in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat and the official residence of the Chief Advisor in Jamuna, effective from Monday (June 9) until further notice.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali issued the directive through a press release on Sunday, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
“It is hereby informed for the information of the general public that, in the interest of maintaining law and order and ensuring the security of the Honorable Chief Advisor, all types of gatherings, processions, and public meetings are prohibited in the areas surrounding the Bangladesh Secretariat and the official residence of the Chief Advisor, Jamuna,” the statement read.
The restricted areas include the vicinity of Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Kakrail Mosque intersection, Officers Club intersection, and Mintu Road.
This restriction has been imposed under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76), which empowers the DMP to take such measures to prevent potential threats to security and public order.
The ban will remain in effect until further notice.
