Dhaka, May 11 (V7N)- Bangladesh received 1.029 billion US dollars in remittances during the first nine days of May this year, reflecting a significant rise in expatriate income compared to the same period last year.
According to Bangladesh Bank data confirmed by central bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan on Sunday, the remittance inflow during the period amounted to approximately Tk 12,630 crore 97 lakh 50 thousand in Bangladeshi currency, calculated at an exchange rate of Tk 122.75 per US dollar.
The central bank data showed that expatriates sent around Tk 3,400 crore 17 lakh 50 thousand during the last three days alone, from Thursday to Saturday.
During the same period in May last year, Bangladesh received 864 million US dollars in remittances. As a result, expatriate income recorded a 19.10 percent increase this year compared to the corresponding period of 2025.
The overall remittance inflow in the current fiscal year, from July 1 to May 9, reached 33.62 billion US dollars.
In comparison, the country received 25.40 billion US dollars during the same period of the previous fiscal year, marking a 19.50 percent growth in remittance earnings year-on-year.
Economists and analysts believe the continued growth in remittance inflows will strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves and contribute positively to maintaining stability in the external sector.
