Dhaka, June 25 (V7N) – Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, has emphasized that achieving economic self-reliance is crucial for ensuring a sustainable transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. He stated that to accelerate the country's development, national unity and solidarity must be strengthened across all sectors.
He made these remarks on Monday while addressing a workshop organized by the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) in Mymensingh. According to a press release issued by SSGP, the event was held in cooperation with the Mymensingh District Administration. The Divisional Commissioner of Mymensingh, Md. Mokhter Ahmed, attended the workshop as special guest, while Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mofidul Alam presided over the session.
Speaking at the event, Divisional Commissioner Md. Mokhter Ahmed noted that Bangladesh has already developed a strong private sector foundation by overcoming past challenges, and this resilience will also support the country in addressing post-graduation hurdles associated with LDC transition. Highlighting the economic potential of the Mymensingh region, especially in agriculture and other industries, Deputy Commissioner Mofidul Alam stressed the need for technology-driven production, quality control, branding, and strong market connectivity to ensure optimal utilization of local potential.
In his welcome address, A.H.M. Jahangir, Additional Secretary of ERD and Project Director of SSGP, underscored the importance of raising awareness among the private sector regarding the potential impacts and emerging opportunities following Bangladesh’s LDC graduation. He highlighted that proactive engagement will be essential for sustaining international trade competitiveness and achieving broader development goals in the post-graduation era.
Bangladesh is currently on track to graduate from the LDC category, and the government, along with development partners, is prioritizing strategic measures to ensure that the transition is smooth, inclusive, and sustainable. The SSGP project plays a key role in building awareness, policy coordination, and institutional capacity in this context.
