Dhaka, July 29 (V7N) – The government has approved in principle a proposal to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from U.S.-based private company Ganbar USA LLC under a 13-year agreement valued at approximately Tk 71,495 crore.
The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, chaired by Finance and Planning Adviser Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury. The Ministry of Finance announced the decision in an official notification.
Under the agreement, Bangladesh will import a total of 78 LNG cargoes from Ganbar USA LLC through a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. The deal provides for the import of six LNG cargoes annually from 2026 through 2039.
The long-term supply agreement is aimed at strengthening the country's energy security and ensuring a stable supply of natural gas to meet growing domestic demand.
The procurement process will be implemented by Petrobangla, an organization under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
