Dhaka, Oct 29 (V7N)- Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said digitising the process of producing accused persons in court from prison could bring a revolutionary change to Bangladesh’s judicial system, adding that work is underway to introduce the system.

He made the remarks on Thursday morning at the inauguration of the country’s first e-Family Appeal Court at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka.

The minister said the government wanted to further improve the judicial system and strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice.

Highlighting the challenge of case backlogs, Asaduzzaman said around 4.6 million cases were pending across the country, placing a heavy burden on approximately 2,300 judges. He acknowledged that disposing of such a large number of cases with the available judicial workforce was difficult.

The minister also said the government was seeking opinions from various stakeholders to make cyber laws more public-friendly.

Regarding constitutional amendments, he said the views of different groups would be considered, including participants in the July uprising, families of those who died, lawyers and journalists.

The government’s stated aim, he added, is to make the judicial system more accessible, efficient and trusted by the public.
