DHAKA, June 14, 2026 (V7N) – A meeting on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project was held today with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Press Wing.

During the meeting, the progress, implementation process, and potential benefits of the BRT project — which stretches from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Joydebpur in Gazipur — were discussed in detail. The BRT system aims to improve public transportation connectivity along one of the capital's busiest corridors.

Experts attending the meeting shared their views on various aspects of the project. They presented observations and recommendations regarding BRT design, station management, passenger services, operational structure, and overall effectiveness. Their inputs are expected to help refine the project's implementation strategy.

Several key government officials were present at the meeting, including Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Railways Habibur Rashid, and Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammed Ziaul Haque.

Academics from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) — including Md Shamsul Hoque, Mosleh Uddin Hasan, Md Hadiuzzaman, and Rakib Ahsan — along with Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan and other relevant officials also attended the meeting. The Prime Minister's chairmanship underscores the government's priority on improving urban transportation infrastructure.
