Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 mega development projects worth Tk 3,890 crore aimed at strengthening infrastructure, public services, and institutional capacity across multiple sectors.

The approval was given at a meeting held on Tuesday morning at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat at 10:00 a.m., chaired by the Prime Minister and ECNEC President Tarique Rahman.

Officials said a total of 12 projects—both new and revised—were placed before the committee. After detailed scrutiny, 10 projects received final approval. Most of the funding will come from government sources, with authorities emphasizing timely implementation.

The approved projects cover a wide range of sectors, including irrigation, urban development, transport, energy, education, and healthcare.

Among the major infrastructure initiatives is the Barisal Irrigation Project Maintenance and Rehabilitation (Phase-1), aimed at improving agricultural productivity and water management in the southern region.

The Integrated Upazila Land Complex Construction Project and the Mymensingh City Corporation Urban Building Construction Project were also approved to strengthen administrative and urban infrastructure.

In the transport sector, the Anwara–Banshkhali–Taitong–Pekua–Badarkhali–Chakaria Regional Highway Upgrading Project was cleared to improve connectivity and regional trade routes.

Other approved initiatives include the Circuit House Development Project in 33 districts and installation of lifts in the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner’s Office to enhance public service accessibility.

In the health sector, ECNEC approved the Bangladesh Children’s Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2 and the Dhaka CMH Cancer Center Construction (Phase-2), both aimed at improving specialized medical services.

The education sector will see implementation of the Madrasa Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) Support Project and the installation of multimedia classrooms in 653 madrasas across the country.

Additionally, the Power Upgradation Project for existing grid substations and transmission lines was approved to strengthen national electricity infrastructure and improve energy reliability.

Officials said the projects are expected to contribute significantly to economic development, improved public services, and long-term infrastructure modernization across Bangladesh.
