Rangpur, July 27 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has rejected allegations that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is fascist, saying those making such claims either lack political understanding or have adopted a similar mindset.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) divisional office in the terminal area of Rangpur city on Monday (July 27).
Responding to a question, Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP is "a democratic and liberal political party" that has earned public support through democratic means.
"We have formed the government by winning two-thirds of the seats in Parliament through a long struggle and with the love and votes of the people. The BNP has been entrusted with running the state five times," he said.
Commenting on the vacant presidency, the Local Government Minister said Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is currently performing the duties of the President in accordance with the Constitution.
He said a presidential election will be held at the appropriate time, and the BNP will decide on its nominee through the party's own process.
Mirza Fakhrul also announced that the government has decided to promote agro-based industries in the northern region to add value to locally produced agricultural goods.
He said initiatives will be taken to establish processing industries for agricultural products, aiming to create employment opportunities and strengthen the regional economy.
