Dhaka, May 13 (V7N) – Speculation is growing over a possible expansion and reshuffle of the current government cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as discussions continue within political circles about increasing its size and adjusting ministerial responsibilities.

According to reports, the government is currently operating with a 50-member cabinet, and internal discussions suggest that changes could take place within the next three months, including a possible expansion and redistribution of portfolios. However, cabinet members have not publicly confirmed any such decisions.

State Minister for Private Aviation and Tourism Rasheduzzaman Millat said he was unaware of any confirmed reshuffle plans, noting that “many things are being discussed on Facebook, including new ministerial appointments and changes,” but no official decision has been communicated.

He also stated that at present there are 25 ministers and 24 state ministers in the cabinet, with several officials handling multiple ministries. According to him, adding three to five new faces is being considered to reduce workload and improve administrative efficiency.

Political advisor to the Prime Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan described cabinet changes as a normal part of parliamentary governance, emphasizing that only the Prime Minister has the authority to make final decisions regarding appointments and reshuffles.

He added that while discussions are natural, no official timeline or confirmation has been given.

Reports also suggest that several Members of Parliament, including Abdul Moin Khan, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Zainul Abdin Faruk, Ershad Ullah, BM Mosharraf Hossain, Selima Rahman, Moazzem Hossain Alal and Mahidur Rahman are being considered for possible inclusion in the cabinet.

Observers note that past governments have also expanded their cabinets significantly over time, including the administration of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, which reportedly expanded from 46 to 60 members after the 8th National Parliament election.
