Dhaka, Apr 21 (V7N): Inspector General of Police Ali Hossain Fakir has said that 99 percent of members of the Bangladesh Police are honest and responsible, emphasizing the need to further strengthen internal discipline and accountability so that the misconduct of a few does not tarnish the image of the entire force.
He made the remarks on Monday while addressing the closing session of a two-day quarterly crime review meeting for January–March 2026 at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department in Malibagh. The meeting was chaired by CID Chief and Additional IGP Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.
The IGP noted that professionalism, responsibility, and collective efforts are key to strengthening the image of the police and making it more people-friendly. He said that although the country’s law and order situation has recently been challenging, it has largely been brought under control through coordinated efforts.
He also stated that the successful completion of a recent national election has boosted the confidence of police personnel and earned public appreciation.
Highlighting the role of the CID, he said the agency continues to play a leading role in the country’s criminal investigation system. He added that the professional competence, sense of duty, and legal expertise of its members are helping to strengthen the justice system.
The police chief called for effective steps to improve the speed and quality of investigations and to ensure timely disposal of cases. He also stressed the importance of analyzing the root causes of crime, adopting coordinated initiatives, keeping response teams ready for rapid action, and implementing a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related and cyber crimes.
In his remarks, the CID chief said various units presented their activities, challenges, and plans during the conference, and practical follow-up strategies were adopted accordingly. He warned that the wrongdoing of a single member should not be allowed to damage the reputation of the entire force.
