Dhaka, Apr 19 (V7N) — Consumers in the capital continued to face severe difficulties on Sunday as long queues formed at fuel stations despite the recent increase in fuel prices.
At several filling stations in areas such as Asad Gate and Paribagh, motorists were seen waiting for hours to purchase fuel under a rationing system.
Long waits and limited supply
Motorcycle riders and private car owners reported waiting since midnight or early morning without being able to receive their desired quantity of fuel. Many stations are reportedly restricting fuel sales to fixed limits, worsening public frustration.
Drivers complained that even after the price hike, the situation has not improved, with supply restrictions continuing across multiple pumps.
New fuel prices implemented
The government has revised fuel prices in response to global market trends. Under the new structure:
-
Diesel: Tk 115 per liter
-
Kerosene: Tk 130 per liter
-
Petrol: Tk 135 per liter
-
Octane: Tk 140 per liter
The revised rates became effective from midnight on Saturday.
Concerns over wider impact
Consumers fear that the fuel price increase will have a ripple effect beyond petrol stations, potentially raising:
-
Public transport fares
-
Agricultural production costs
-
Prices of essential goods
Growing frustration
The ongoing rationing and supply shortages have triggered anger among consumers, who are demanding improved distribution management and greater transparency in fuel supply operations.
Authorities have yet to provide a clear timeline for normalization of fuel availability across the capital.
