Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – Former caretaker government advisor Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman has expressed deep concern over rising pseudo-unemployment among Bangladesh’s youth, calling it an epidemic. He made the remarks during a seminar organized by the Bangladesh Business Forum on Monday morning.
Dr. Rahman said that the true scale of youth despair can be understood by observing their increasing frustration. “In terms of poverty, Bangladesh’s economy is moving in the wrong direction. Inequality has steadily increased during the previous government’s tenure, and statistics have lost their real significance,” he said. He noted that a recent government survey indicated a rise in primary storms, reflecting a stagnating economy in reality.
The former advisor also highlighted widespread complacency and a lack of action to adapt to the global economic environment, noting that economic growth has slowed compared to previous years. He urged the creation of a new narrative of development to tackle these challenges.
In addition, the seminar raised questions about the effectiveness of FBCCI, Bangladesh’s top business organization. Speakers alleged that over the past 15 years, pocket committees have dominated decision-making, favoring political loyalty over competence, and called for early elections to restore the organization’s effectiveness for the welfare of the business community.
