Dhaka, June 29 (V7N) — Bangladesh has continued its dialogue with the United States to finalize a mutual customs agreement, with discussions progressing in phases, according to officials.
The latest round of talks took place on Thursday (June 28). The Bangladesh delegation was led by National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman, while the US side was headed by US Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch.
Following the meeting, Dr. Rahman expressed optimism over the outcome of the discussions. “Significant progress has been made in our discussions with the US representatives. Both sides are making sincere efforts to finalize the agreement as soon as possible,” he said.
The proposed agreement aims to enhance cooperation on customs procedures, improve trade facilitation, and bolster efforts to prevent smuggling and customs fraud between the two countries.
It is notable that Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who is spearheading Bangladesh’s efforts, previously served as chief of trade policy at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Further talks are expected as both nations work towards concluding the agreement in the near future.
