Abidjan, Aug 06 (V7N)- French coach Hervé Renard has returned as head coach of the Ivory Coast national football team for a second spell, the Ivorian Football Federation announced.
Renard, who guided the Elephants to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, replaces Emerse Faye, whose contract was not renewed following the team's elimination in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced French manager has enjoyed remarkable success in African football, having previously led both Zambia and Ivory Coast to AFCON championships.
Renard also made global headlines during the 2022 FIFA World Cup when his Saudi Arabia side stunned eventual world champions Argentina with a memorable group-stage victory—the country's first-ever World Cup win over the South American giants.
His second spell in charge of Ivory Coast will begin next month with the team's AFCON playoff matches against Ghana and Somalia, as the Elephants look to secure qualification and return to continental success.
