Dhaka, August 5 (V7N)- Popular Bangladeshi folk singer and music composer Mujib Pardeshi, widely known for the song “Ami Bandi Karagare,” has been sent to jail in a check dishonour case.
The order was issued on Tuesday by the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah.
According to the case statement, a man named Idris Ali Biswas filed a case against Mujib Pardeshi at a Magura court in 2022, accusing him of dishonouring a cheque worth Tk 10 lakh.
After hearing the case, Magura’s Second Joint Sessions Judge Muhammad Anwar Sadat sentenced Mujib Pardeshi to one year of rigorous imprisonment on March 15, 2023. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 10 lakh, equivalent to the amount of the dishonoured cheque.
Following the verdict, an arrest warrant was issued as the singer had reportedly remained absconding. Later, Uttara West Police in Dhaka arrested him on Monday, August 3.
Mujib Pardeshi’s real name is Mujibur Rahman Mollah. He gained widespread popularity in the Bengali folk music scene during the 1980s.
Some of his most popular songs include “Ami Bandi Karagare,” “Sada Dile Kada,” “Kalme Nai Kali,” “Ami Kemon Kore Patra Likhi,” and “Mon Tore Pailam Na Uchhaite,” which earned him a lasting place among folk music lovers.
