DHAKA, May 10 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus extended warm felicitations to the Buddhist community in Bangladesh and worldwide on Saturday, on the eve of Buddha Purnima.
"This year's celebrations have come at a time when the teachings of Lord Buddha to foster peace, harmony, and unity are more relevant than ever before," he stated.
On this auspicious occasion, Professor Yunus expressed his hope that "our path forward as a humanity be lit with understanding, compassion, and joy."
Buddha Purnima, the most significant religious festival for the Buddhist community, will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Sunday. The day commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha.
It is noted that Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama in Kopilabostu, at the foothills of the Himalayas, in 563 BC. He attained supreme enlightenment at the age of 35 and reached 'nirvana' at the age of 80 in 483 BC.
Buddha Purnima is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
Additionally, it's noted that the Chief Adviser also mourned the death of Mustafa Zaman Abbasi.
