Dhaka, May 01 (V7N)-  In celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, Bangladesh has officially recognized 24 new domestic products under the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, increasing the country's total number of GI products to 55.

At a special certificate distribution ceremony, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan announced the addition of local products such as Narsingdi's Latkon, Madhupur's Pineapple, Bhola's Buffalo Milk Curd, Magura's Hajrapuri Litchi, and Brahmanbaria's Channamukhi Sweets.

Newly Recognized GI Products (24)

Textiles & Handicrafts: Sirajganj's Gamcha & Lungi, Mirpur's Katan Saree, Sylhet's Manipuri Saree, Comilla's Khadi, Kumarkhali's Bedsheet, Dhakai Footy Cotton (fabric, seeds, and plants)

Fruits & Crops: Madhupur's Pineapple, Magura's Hajrapuri Litchi, Dinajpur's Badana Litchi, Naogaon's Nak Fazli Mango, Narsingdi's Latkon, Gazipur's Jackfruit, Kishoreganj's Rata Boro Paddy

Sweets & Dairy: Bhola's Raw Buffalo Milk Curd, Brahmanbaria's Channamukhi Sweets, Sherpur's Channa Payesh, Tangail's Jamurki Sandesh, Ashtagram's Paneer

Others: Munshiganj's Patakshir, Barisal's Amra, Gopalganj's Bronze Jewelry, Sundarbans' Honey

The GI certification strengthens the legal protection of traditional Bangladeshi products, enhances their market value, and helps preserve cultural heritage.
