Madaripur, Dec 23 (V7N) — At least 3,000 chickens were burned to death after a poultry farm was set on fire by suspected miscreants in Madaripur’s Sadar Upazila early Tuesday (December 23).
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the “Pakhira Rajarchar” area under Khoajpur Union of the district. The blaze completely gutted the poultry shed, reducing it and the birds inside to ashes.
The affected farm owner, Jasim Bepari, said that workers noticed the fire while preparing to feed the chickens before dawn and immediately raised an alarm. Local residents rushed to the scene and attempted to extinguish the flames but failed. The Madaripur Fire Service was informed; however, by the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already destroyed the shed and killed nearly all the chickens.
Jasim Bepari claimed that the fire caused financial losses amounting to approximately Tk 20 lakh. He also alleged that the incident may have been an act of arson carried out by rivals due to a prior dispute.
Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Abul Kalam Azad, said that legal action would be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family.
Police said they are awaiting a formal complaint and will investigate the cause of the fire once legal procedures are initiated.
