Nairobi, Oct 26 (V7N)- At least 24 people were killed and 24 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a truck on Kenya’s Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Sunday, October 25, while passengers were returning from a funeral.

The passengers were travelling back to the coastal city of Mombasa after attending the funeral of a local church pastor when the accident occurred.

According to the initial account, a truck struck the bus from behind, causing it to overturn. Investigators suspect that an unsafe overtaking manoeuvre may have contributed to the crash, although the exact cause has not been confirmed.

The accident occurred at the same location where another major road crash three weeks earlier reportedly killed 17 people, raising renewed concerns about road safety along the busy highway.

Excessive speed and poor road conditions are among the factors frequently associated with serious traffic accidents in Kenya.

The latest tragedy has highlighted continuing concerns over highway safety and the need for measures to prevent fatal collisions.
