Tehran, Jul 03 (V7N) — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has tightened security along the Persian Gulf coast by deploying special forces to enhance maritime surveillance near Oman, according to a report by Iran International published on Friday.

The report said IRGC units are monitoring the movements of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, particularly along shipping routes adjacent to Oman's territorial waters. Equipped with specialized surveillance technology, the force is tasked with detecting vessels in advance and issuing navigational warnings when necessary.

According to the report, ships intending to pass through the Strait of Hormuz have been instructed to use routes designated by the IRGC. International vessels have also been warned against using sea lanes adjacent to Oman.

The increased maritime surveillance comes amid heightened regional tensions despite a temporary understanding reached between Washington and Tehran.

The report further said that Oman has accused the IRGC of continuing intelligence-gathering activities even as diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States remain ongoing.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's busiest energy shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Any increase in military activity or security measures in the area is closely watched by the international community due to its potential impact on global energy markets and regional stability.
