Tokyo, Jun 28 (V7N) – A powerful typhoon accompanied by severe regional storms has swept across Japan, triggering landslides, injuring at least three people and leaving one person missing, according to Japanese state media.
Heavy rainfall began across much of the country on Wednesday, with some areas recording more than 350 millimetres of rain over a two-day period.
The torrential downpours triggered landslides in several regions, causing widespread disruption and prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency in the worst-affected areas.
As the severe weather intensified, schools and colleges were closed, while local authorities urged residents to remain indoors and follow emergency instructions.
Thousands of people have been evacuated from vulnerable communities to emergency shelters as a precaution against further landslides and flooding.
Rescue teams are continuing search operations to locate the missing person, while emergency responders remain on standby to assist affected communities.
Authorities have warned that heavy rain, strong winds and the risk of additional landslides may continue, urging the public to stay alert and closely monitor official weather advisories.
